The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)
has assured the people of Ugunja that mechanisms have been put in place to
ensure a free, fair, and credible by-election.
IEBC Vice Chairperson Fahima Araphat emphasized the
commission’s commitment to peaceful elections and urged citizens to turn out in
large numbers to cast their votes.
She said that they have done all the preparations to ensure
that the elections will be free, fair and credible, and urged registered voters
to come out and vote without fear.
Commissioner Araphat, who spoke to journalists at the IEBC’s
Ugunja constituency tallying center in Ambira High School, noted that the
commission had received assurances from security agencies that comprehensive
measures were in place to safeguard voters and polling officials.
She said that security personnel will be deployed across all 116 polling centres, tallying stations, and throughout the county to ensure
safety.
The IEBC Vice chairperson further appealed to residents to
protect the country’s peace and unity during the electoral process.
She requested Kenyans in all areas where the by-elections
will be taking place to do what it takes to protect the country.
