The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has kicked off the regional validation of its Regional Agrifood Systems Investment Plan (RASIP) for the 2026–2035 period in Nairobi, Kenya.

The two-day forum marks the final technical and policy review of the draft RASIP, which builds on lessons drawn from the previous Regional Agricultural Investment Plan as well as national agrifood systems strategies across IGAD Member States.

The meeting has brought together representatives from IGAD Member States, the African Union, AUDA-NEPAD, development partners, and various IGAD divisions to ensure the plan reflects shared regional priorities and development goals.

RASIP is designed to guide investments and policy actions aimed at strengthening the resilience, inclusiveness, and sustainability of agrifood systems across the Horn of Africa. The plan places renewed emphasis on climate adaptation, sustainable natural resource management, economic empowerment of youth and women, regional trade integration, and digital innovation.

It also seeks to align agrifood systems transformation with key interconnected sectors such as water, land, the blue economy, and environmental management.

Over the two days, technical experts reviewed and refined the plan’s structure, flagship programmes, and monitoring and evaluation frameworks, ensuring coherence with continental commitments and national development priorities.

The meeting concluded with consensus on key recommendations and a clear roadmap towards Ministerial endorsement, setting the stage for enhanced regional cooperation and sustainable development of agrifood systems across the IGAD region.
