Police in Bureti Sub-County have launched investigations after a 23-year-old woman allegedly stabbed a 28-year-old car washer to death during an altercation in Litein town.

According to Bureti Sub-County Police Commander Bernard Chirchir, the suspect, identified as Tashamila Cherotich, allegedly attacked Barnabas Kiprotich Bett near Stabex Petrol Station on Monday night. She is reported to have used a kitchen knife, striking Bett in the upper chest near the shoulder, before fleeing the scene.

Bett was rushed by members of the public to Litein Mission Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police say irate residents later tracked down the suspect to a nearby plot, just 150 metres from the scene. An attempt to lynch her was thwarted when officers intervened and placed her under arrest.

Detectives investigating the case revealed that Cherotich later led them to a napier grass plantation, where she had allegedly discarded the blood-stained knife believed to have been used in the attack. The weapon was recovered and secured as evidence.

The suspect is being held at Litein Police Station and will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been moved to Litein Mission Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
