Adhiambo, 21, was allegedly shot during a police pursuit of robbery suspects on February 7, an incident that has sparked unrest.
IPOA Vice Chairperson has confirmed that a Rapid Response Team has been deployed and is actively gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and analysing available exhibits to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Reporting on the incident, the National Police Service (NPS) said that on the morning of the fateful day, a victim reported at the Huruma Police Station that he had been attacked by five young men known to him, robbed of a silver chain and Ksh.1,800 in cash, and threatened with death.
Police officers responding to the report arrested two suspects, while further investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects later in the evening.
It was during the second arrest when one of the suspects allegedly raised an alarm, inciting nearby youths to pelt the officers with stones and other projectiles in an attempt to disrupt the operation.
The officers are then said to have fired warning shots into the air to disperse the crowd when Adhiambo was fatally shot.
The NPS has urged residents to allow due process to take its course and desist from further acts of lawlessness to de-escalate the situation and restore calm.
