Security teams have also recovered 655 shoats (goats and sheep), raising the total number of livestock recovered to 2,389. In addition, 77 head of cattle and one camel were recovered.
Speaking at Isiolo County Police Headquarters, County Police Commander Isaac Sang said all 23 firearms were recovered within Isiolo County, although the operation is also ongoing in neighboring Samburu and Laikipia counties.
Sang said six suspects are in police custody in connection with the illegal firearms and are awaiting prosecution. He urged individuals still in possession of illegal weapons to surrender them voluntarily and benefit from state amnesty, warning that those found with firearms will face legal action.
He credited National Government Administration Officers, National Police Reservists and members of the public for providing information that has contributed to the recoveries. Together with Isiolo Deputy County Commissioner Benard Okwiri, Sang called for continued cooperation between residents and security agencies to eliminate illegal firearms used in cattle rustling, highway banditry and other crimes.
On drug trafficking, Sang warned boda boda operators against being used to transport illegal substances. He said traffickers are increasingly using motorcycles to move drugs through bush routes to evade highway security checks before distributing them within Isiolo and to other parts of the country.
