Speaking during his Social Newsroom show which is streamed on YouTube, Masai said he was caught off guard.
"Between the time I was called and the time I got the letter in hand was a few minutes... I was working for the bulletin that day. It was shocking and it threw me off..." Masai said.
He admitted that he knew things were not good, but was still shocked.
"When I saw the phone call, I thought, 'you never call me'... I didn't pick it but the second time I picked it and said I know what this is about and I'm coming," Masai said.
He said he proceeded to do the bulletin that night and then broke the news to his team afterwards on WhatsApp.
Masai went on to say that there was no shame in redundancy and was surprised to see how some outlets were breaking the news, saying he was 'fired' yet it was a redundancy.
"I was surprised when people were saying I was fired as if I had done something other than be very good at what I did," he said.
He said there was no competition between those in the industry and those who are making ends meet as self-employed professionals.
