The government will begin to pay content creators and influencers who promote its flagship programs such as affordable housing, health, job creation and agriculture.

Speaking during a creator education forum on Wednesday, Dennis Itumbi, the Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy, said content creators who focus on the government projects will benefit directly from financial support.

“The government is willing to put money specifically for a few things that government is doing, and you can benefit directly,” Itumbi said. “I would want creators to take advantage, if you do content around housing, health, job creation and agriculture. We are willing to put money and content for you.”

He further explained that the government has overhauled its advertising strategy by shifting from manual to digital platforms, where majority of young Kenyans now consumes content.

Itumbi encouraged content creators to take advantage of government ad revenue, as in 2023, President William Ruto directed 30% of ad revenue to digital platform.

“We give you the money and notes for you to create content and earn by just posting on TikTok around those agendas,” he added.

According to Itumbi, the program will allow content creators to submit proposals to the Creative Economy Office, highlighting their outlined plan on how they intend to showcase the government projects in a creative and informative way.

This, he said, highlights a wider strategy by the Kenya Kwanza government to boost communication, increase transparency and ensure Kenyans are informed of its designed program.
