Kakamega Homeboyz FC have cracked the whip, suspending three members of its technical bench for a week following conflict.
The
Kenyan Premier League club have undergone a rough patch in the top division,
when they were widely expected to challenge for the league title, winning just
seven matches out of the 18, they have played. In addition, they have drawn an
equal number while losing four to accumulate 28 points, 12 shy of table-topping
Gor Mahia.
The
suspended officials are; assistant coach Paul Okatwa, goalkeeping coach James
Ombeng, and fitness trainer Eric Muranda.
It is
alleged that the three had personal differences, which spilled into their work,
undermining the team’s campaign.
According
to the club’s manager, Bornface Imbenzi, the decision to suspend the trio was
made to allow time to seek a lasting solution.
“The management of the club and the playing
unit realized the misunderstanding between the three who were giving each other
cold shoulder in the camp, and we just felt that the issue will affect our
teamwork when unity is needed, so the executive decided to take action,” he
said.
This
comes just a few days after some of the club’s fans caused unrest, threatening
to attack some of the players at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega town, due
to a series of poor results.
This was
in the wake of a 3-3 draw, against visitors Mara Sugar FC, at the same venue.
Homeboyz,
who were top of the FKF Premier League table in December last year, have now
dropped to seventh on the log.
