Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) men’s basketball head coach
Sammy Kiki is pleased with his boys’ performance over the weekend, after they
put a solid shift to beat Terror 68-38 despite the long league break.
The Dockers defeated University Of Nairobi's Terror 68-38 on Saturday before beating Thunder 70-64 on Sunday in a match staged at Makande Gymnasium.
“We played well despite staying away for almost two months,
the level of fitness was not that good but the three days we trained together
really helped us on the way we played. We did not struggle and I am happy with
the way we played,” Kiki said.
“The wins largely contributed to the team chemistry and
following instructions and the urge to play defensively and that’s why we were
able to stop Thunder’s offensive attacks.
On his part Thunder head coach Sadat Gaya blamed a slow start for the loss.
“Defensively we were okay; once we started scoring we closed
the lead. KPA did a great job just running the clock with four minutes to go. I
could have made better adjustments,” Gaya said.
The wins saw KPA reach the 29 points mark after 15 games,
winning 14 and losing one while Thunder have 31 points from 20 matches, winning
11 and losing nine.
In their Sunday’s game against Thunder the Dockers won the
opening quarter 20-12 before another win of 22-17 in the second quarter as they
established a 42-29 cushion at the break.
The teams drew 18-18 in the third quarter with KPA opening a
13-point lead before Thunder closing with a 17-10 in the last quarter.
Elsewhere KPA ladies team won 105-15 over UoN Dynamites on
Saturday before getting a walkover against Kisumu Lady Bucks on Sunday.
The wins saw KPA continue with their unbeaten run in the
league, having played 15 matches, winning all
to bag 30 points.
