Two Senator Keg consumers have each won Ksh1 million in the ongoing 'Tuzidi Kuinuana' promotion, bringing the total number of million-shilling winners to four.

The campaign, now in its second month, rewards consumers while directing part of each prize to community-based organisations linked to the brand’s sorghum supply chain.

One of the winners, Eric Wafula, a carwash attendant in Nairobi’s Karen area, said he plans to use part of his winnings to build a house in his rural home. He will donate Ksh500,000 to Holo Valley Farmers Group, a People With Disabilities (PWD) community-based organisation in Kisumu County.

“I couldn’t believe it at first when I got the call. This win gives me a big boost towards building a house back home,” Wafula said.

Holo Valley Farmers Group grows cowpeas for local markets and aggregates sorghum for sale to Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) for the production of Senator Keg. Wafula said the donation would support training on best farming practices and help raise capital for sorghum aggregation.

“I am glad the money will support a group led by persons with disabilities and help improve their farming activities,” he added.

The second winner, Gabriel Njuguna, a long-distance truck driver, said he would invest his share in expanding his dorper sheep farming project. He will donate Ksh500,000 to Gakiuma Farmers in Tharaka Nithi County to improve produce storage and purchase farm equipment.

“When I got the call, I thought it was a scam because of the many fraud cases these days. This proves the campaign is real,” Njuguna said.

He said Gakiuma Farmers aggregate cowpeas, green grams and sorghum for sale to local markets and to KBL. “They need better storage and equipment. This money will help them improve their operations,” he added.

The three-month promotion, which began in December, is expected to reward more than 800,000 participants with prizes ranging from airtime and shopping vouchers to home makeovers. Five winners are set to receive a grand prize of Ksh1 million each.

According to the organisers, the Ksh33.7 million campaign also aims to support farmers who supply sorghum for beer production and to raise awareness against the sale and consumption of illicit brews.
