The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a
traffic advisory and proposed alternative routes to ease anticipated congestion
as thousands of fans travel to the WRC Safari Rally in Naivasha this weekend.
The authority on Wednesday said the directives will apply
between Thursday, March 12 and Sunday, March 15, when the rally is expected to
attract large crowds from across the country and abroad.
“KeNHA hereby issues a traffic advisory and alternative routes
to ease anticipated traffic congestion caused by the public heading to the
Safari Rally event from 12th to 15th March, 2026,” KeNHA Director General Eng.
Luka Kimeli stated.
To manage the expected traffic build-up, KeNHA outlined
several alternative routes for motorists travelling towards Nakuru and the
surrounding areas.
The routes include the scenic route via Nairobi – Rironi –
Flyover (Magumu) – Njambini – Ol Kalou – Dundori – Lanet.
Motorists can also use the adventure route passing through
Nairobi – Rironi – Naivasha – Engineer – Olkalou – Dundori – Lanet.
Another option is the Thika trail through Nairobi – Thika –
Magumu – Ol Kalou – Dundori – Lanet, while those heading through Southern Kenya
can use the Suswa shortcut via Nairobi – Ngong – Suswa – Narok and Nakuru.
The authority also cautioned truck drivers against parking
along the highway at undesignated spots on the highways, warning that the
violation would lead to immediate arrests.
The sixth edition of the WRC Safari Rally, since its return to
the World Rally Championship calendar, will take place from March 12 to 15 in
Naivasha, bringing together elite local and international drivers and thousands
of fans.
The rally continues to cement Kenya’s position as a premier
global motorsport destination.
For the first time since the event returned to the
championship calendar, spectators will get an opportunity to watch the
shake-down during the 2026 edition, where competitors will tackle 20 special
stages covering around 350 competitive kilometres across some of the most
iconic and punishing terrain in world rallying.
