Kenya finished on top of the medal standings for the second
successive edition after completing a superb Africa Senior Athletics
Championships campaign on Sunday in Reduit, Mauritius.
Kenya collected 11 medals on the fifth and final day with 11
medals to finish their outing with a haul of 23 medals (10 gold,

It is the fifth time that the athletic powerhouse leads the
rest of Africa after 1982 in Cairo, 1984 in Rabat, 2010 in Nairobi and
2018 in Asaba.
Sprint star Ferdinand Omanyala once again provided the toast
of the action, claiming an individual 100m title and anchoring a Kenyan upset
of South Africa in the men’s 4x100m relays.
On final day of the five-day showpiece, Samuel Gathimba and
Emily Ngii bagged gold in the men's and women's walk race respectively.
In-form Abel Kipsang clinched the men's 1500m title after
clocking 3:36.57 before Jarinter Mawia ran herself to gold in the women's 800m,
crossing the finish line in 2:02.80
Julius Yego retained his title when he threw 79.62m to edge
the 2015 champion Abdelrahman Ihab of Egypt who clinched silver with a throw of
77.12m
