David Kapaiko and Caren Chepngeno delivered first gold medals for the country while Lonah Cherono took the medal tally to five after winning silver in the 3,000m girls’ final.

Kapaiko dominated the boys’ 1500m final, winning in 3mins 52.01secs ahead of Temesgen Alemayo Dinkeneh of Ethiopia and Ahmed Miguil Kalid from Djibouti.

In the 2,000m steeplechase girls final, Caren Chepngeno showed her opponents a clean pair of heels to deliver Kenya’s second gold in 6mins 33.92secs.

The strong showing has added to Team Kenya’s impressive haul after winning two bronze in Karate on Thursday.

In the country’s capital Luanda, Kenya’s beach teams punched tickets to the quarter finals after easily steamrolling their opponents.

Kenyan swimmers however failed to sparkle in the waters after the youngsters came out without any medal in all the categories.

The multi-sport event which ends on December 19 is serving as part of the qualification pathway for the Youth Olympic Games to be held in Dakar next year.
