Kenya has successfully won the bid to host
the 2024 Transform Africa Summit (TAS-24), this was announced by the Smart
Africa Alliance.
The Alliance, which is the coordinating
secretariat for ICT programmes and activities for the African Continent, made the
announcement on Tuesday during the annual Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona,
Spain.
Information, Communication and the Digital
Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo, who was in attendance, noted that the successful
bid underscores Kenya's standing as an ICT powerhouse and a regional leader in
driving the transformative impact of technology on socio-economic development.
"This win is a testament to the
confidence that the Smart Africa Alliance places in Kenya and its leadership,”
stated CS Owalo in his acceptance speech.
“It solidifies our nation's tradition as a
home for high-profile international conferences, an ICT investment destination
of choice and highlights Kenya’s commitment to advancing the Digital Agenda in
Africa.”
The Transform Africa Summit, organized
annually by the Smart Africa Alliance, is the foremost continental forum uniting
global and regional ICT leaders from government, business and international
organizations.
The Summit is now scheduled to take place in
Nairobi from August 28th – 30th this year.
The bidding process was initiated in November
last year through the Communications Authority, and reflected Kenya's
determination to secure the hosting rights and showcase the nation’s
capabilities on a global stage.
