Kenyan environmental champion Dr Isaac Kalua Green has called for a renewed commitment to responsible leadership and environmental stewardship across Africa during an official visit to Liberia.

Dr Kalua, the Chief Steward of the Green Africa Group, was invited by the Government of Liberia to deliver a keynote address at a West African leadership conference themed “Service Beyond Self.”

His speech urged African leaders to adopt development models that balance economic progress with protection of natural resources and community well-being.

“Africa will rise when leadership consistently delivers value, protects natural wealth, and empowers communities to prosper with dignity,” he said. “We cannot build the continent by extracting from the future.”

During his visit, Dr. Kalua met President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, senior government officials, private-sector executives, and religious leaders. The discussions focused on environmental restoration, youth empowerment, and sustainable livelihoods—areas where Liberia is seeking new partnerships.

He also delivered a goodwill message from President William Ruto, affirming Kenya's commitment to advancing African-driven solutions rooted in integrity, innovation, and community transformation.

One of the key outcomes of the visit was President Boakai’s acceptance to serve as an ambassador of the Plant Your Age Initiative, a tree-growing movement championed by Dr. Kalua across Africa. The President also adopted the Swahili name Baraka during the meeting, a symbolic gesture of East–West African solidarity.

Dr Kalua’s book Green for Life and initiatives such as Green Africa Villages and Plant Your Age have gained traction beyond Kenya, informing community-based sustainability efforts in several African countries.

Speaking at the end of his trip, Dr Kalua said the growing interest in these models reflects a continental shift toward homegrown solutions. “When leaders choose service beyond self and communities take responsibility for their environment, Africa becomes a force the world must reckon with,” he noted.

Green Africa Group continues to work with governments and institutions across the continent to promote environmental conservation and long-term community development.
