The law firm of SMS advocates formed almost a decade ago has the distinction of having produced a Cabinet Secretary, Principal Secretary and Senator.

On the law firm’s official website, the three founding partners namely Kipchumba Murkomen, Abraham Korir Sing’oei and Hillary Sigei are listed.

Murkomen, who was the two-time Senator of Elgeyo Marakwet county is now the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Roads and Transport. He resigned to join the Cabinet and the seat was taken over after a by-election by William Kipkemoi Kisang.

Sing’oei is now a Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs but previously served as legal advisor at the  Executive Office of the Deputy President, where he was also the head of law and policy, and a convenor of the open government partnership in Kenya.

Meanwhile, the Managing Partner and team leader of the firm Hillary Sigei is the current Senator for Bomet county. He warded off stiff competition from former Senator Christopher Lang’at and former Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary-General Wilson Sossion to get the UDA ticket and won the election thereafter.
