The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has pledged to support the reconstruction of Loramoru Primary School in Mukutani, Baringo County, outside the gazetted forest area.

Speaking to the press, Baringo County Forest Conservator Ann Nyaoke clarified that while no construction can take place within gazetted forest land, KFS is working closely with education authorities and the local community to identify a suitable site outside the forest or along its edge, where the school will be reconstructed.

Nyaoke noted that once a site is agreed upon, KFS will assist in rebuilding the school to its previous layout, including three classrooms for Grades one to three and teachers’ houses.

This is aimed at ensuring local children continue to access education in a legal and sustainable location,” she said.

Loramoru Primary School was closed for over 13 years due to insecurity that forced residents to flee. It reopened in 2024 after families returned.

Before its closure, the school comprised two iron-sheet classrooms and three rooms for teachers’ quarters and a staffroom.

KFS said ongoing consultations with the community aim to balance forest conservation with social needs such as education. Residents have been urged to continue engaging through established channels as plans progress for the new school site and reconstruction.
