A Kibera court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment after finding him guilty of defiling a nine-year-old boy in Kichinjio area.

Abdikadir Abdullahi Hassan was convicted after Senior Principal Magistrate Irene Kahuya found the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

According to the prosecution, Hassan lured the minor, identified as A.M.K., into his shop before committing the act.

The court heard testimonies from four witnesses whose accounts painted a detailed picture of the ordeal suffered by the victim.

In her judgment, Magistrate Kahuya decried the rising cases of sexual offences in the area, terming the act “a grave betrayal of trust” placed in the accused by the victim and his family.

She further noted that the child continues to endure trauma, including nightmares and fear of leaving home.

The court imposed a life sentence under the Sexual Offences Act, emphasizing that the punishment should serve as a deterrent to others who might contemplate similar crimes.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) welcomed the ruling, describing it as a milestone in the fight against sexual and gender-based violence.

The ODPP commended the swift conclusion of the case, finalized within ten months, saying it reflected it’s commitment to ensuring timely justice for vulnerable victims and upholding the rule of law.
