Kinale Girls High School rugby team are the 2024 Central Region Secondary Schools Sports Association (CRSSSA) champions after defeating St. Joseph Ruiru Girls 61-00 in a lopsided final held at Kia-Nyaga Secondary in Kirinyaga County.

Fresh from lifting the Kiambu County 7s title last week, Kinale demonstrated their dominance from the onset of the inter-schools competition overwhelming St Joseph with a decisive 22-00 win, followed by a commanding 57-00 victory against Kaheti.

Their momentum carried into the semi-finals where they defeated Kerugoya girls with a staggering 60-00 score to set up a final date against Ruiru Girls beating the latter 61-00 to lift their maiden regional title.

Coach Allan Bush, speaking to Citizen Digital after the victory, expressed his elation and pride in the team's historic achievement.

"This is an incredible moment for Kinale. We've worked hard, and it's paid off. To proceed to the nationals for the first time in our history is a dream come true," he said.

Kinale has conceded only a single try since the beginning of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) championship from the sub-county level to regionals.

The Allan Bush-led charges will now advance to the national championships, set to be held in Kisii from July 29.
