Kindiki's coronation as Mt Kenya kingpin faulted for not involving all elders

MPs George Kariuki of Ndia, George Koimburi (Juja) and George Gachagua (Ndaragwa) said that the exercise, that occured at Kirigiti stadium in Kiambu County a week ago, did not involve all elders and lacked the community's blessings.

The lawmakers spoke during a meeting with Kiama Kia Ma elders in Juja constituency in Saturday. They maintained that the region's leadership mantle is still held by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who assumed the role in 2011.

The MPs averred that the entire process was secretly hatched and executed hastily instead of following the right procedure of installing the community's kingpin.

They asserted that the ceremony is not political but communal and that all relevant players including all elders from the GEMA community should have been consulted.

MP George Kariuki chided the entire process as sham noting that even the ceremonial crown won by the community leaders fell from Kindiki's head indicating a failed process.

The lawmaker, who has been crisscrossing the region marshalling up support as he seeks to be picked as President William Ruto's running mate during next year's general elections, said that they only recognize Uhuru as the rightful region's kingpin adding that they'd seek his blessings to install a new kingpin.

MP George Koimburi, who has recently become a fierce critic of the Deputy President, said that the region cannot be led by a leader who has been working in cahoots with other leaders in government to divide Mt Kenya region.

He also reiterated that Kindiki has failed to stamp his authority in the current regime and hence the reason he seem sidelined in many state functions including the recent Nyanza region tour by President Ruto.

Koimburi said that time is ripe for the region to pick a strong leader who will strongly fight for the region's interests even beyond 2027.

They also took a swipe at Kindiki for failing to act on the illicit brews and second generation brews that have been rampaging the region claiming innocent lives and destroying lives of thousands of young people.

Kariuki noted that they will be pushing for enforcement of existing laws to tame the vice as they step up the fight against outlawed and counterfeit liquor.

On their side, Kikuyu elders led by Maina wa Kibe and Mwangi Kagumo said they were left dumb founded learning about the coronation in the media. In contrast, Kiambu Kiama eders were not involved, terming the entire exercise a sham, saying such event is conductuted in a shrine.

Still, not a public ground saying they pittied deputy president Kindiki for being misled.
