King Kaka signs deal with Universal Music Group to expand global reach

The collaboration, announced in Nairobi on March 11, brings together Kaka Empire’s creative leadership and Universal Music Group East Africa’s global distribution network and industry expertise to support upcoming music releases while maintaining the artistic direction that has defined King Kaka’s career.
Kaka Empire, the label founded by King Kaka, has played a key role in shaping contemporary East African music and nurturing talent within the region.
Through the new partnership, the label will work closely with Universal Music Group East Africa to strengthen production, distribution and strategic support for its artists and projects.
According to a press statement, the collaboration is centred on culture, craft and elevating the global presence of East African music.
King Kaka, widely regarded as one of Kenya’s most influential hip-hop artists, has built his career on music that blends storytelling, social commentary and reflections on everyday life.
His work has consistently pushed the boundaries of lyrical depth and cultural relevance within the region’s evolving music scene.
“The partnership reflects a shared commitment to strengthening the presence and continued growth of East African music,” Universal Music said in the statememt.
“By combining Kaka Empire’s creative leadership with Universal’s distribution network and strategic support, the collaboration aims to further elevate the region’s sound and connect it with broader audiences. This strategic partnership marks an important milestone for both organizations as they continue championing East African music.”
The announcement of the partnership comes just as King Kaka is scheduled to release his ninth studio album dubbed ‘The Year of The Pen’ on March 27, 2026.
