Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament Anthony Kibagendi has allegedly been arrested by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives from Muthaiga Police Station.

The MP took to his official Facebook account on Tuesday afternoon and announced the arrest, saying that he had been forcefully apprehended and detained in Muthaiga.

"I have been aggressively blocked by DCI officers and arrested. Being taken to DCI HQS, Muthaiga Police Station," he wrote.

Kibagendi, who is a sharp critic of President William Ruto’s administration, has been at the forefront of criticising the Ministry of Health over Social Health Authority (SHA) related issues.

He is a supporter of the one-term (‘wantam’) movement and a close ally of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

Even though the MP did not disclose the reason for the arrest, reports indicate the arrest may be due to a recent assault case where the lawmaker was captured by CCTV beating up a local political operative, Enock Omariba

In the viral video dated November 2025, Kibagendi was seen storming a restaurant in Kisii town, kicking and beating up the man as people tried to separate them.
