An examiner for the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025, at  Machakos Girls High School.

According to the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), Nicodemus Mutua Mutuku was an active member in the marking exercise of KJSEA that commenced on November 7, 2025.

The deceased was a team leader in the Creative Arts and Sports Paper.

Mutuku was a teacher at Nduluni Junior school in Makindu Sub-County, Makueni County. He was also an examiner with the KNEC for many years of the now-defunct Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations before he was transitioned to the Competency-Based Education (CBE).

“We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to Mr. Mutuku’s family, friends, loved ones and fellow examiners,” said KNEC CEO Dr. David NJengere in a statement on Tuesday.

The exam marking began shortly after the completion of KJSEA exams on November 6, 2025.

The Ministry of Education earlier stated that the results for the Junior Secondary tests will be released on December 11, 2025.
