KPL transfers, Nyamweya Must Go and Eric Masika

Clubs are broke. No serious transactions going on here. Only piecemeal moves made here and there. Well, Eugene Asike moved to Tusker, Farouk Shikalo moved to Muhoroni, Jairus Adira crossed the fence back home from Sony to Chemelil, Enock Agwanda moved to Gor Mahia while nobody really knows where Wycliffe Kasaya and Martin Imbalambala are. Those are mere movements. Not serious front page transfers. You know, serious transfers like Giovanni Rodriguez the Brazilian? Yea, not yet!

There’s no money. Clubs are broke. Big clubs that used to make it rain in the transfer window cannot even afford to pay their players. So we may as well forget any major deals being inked. But maybe we are already surprised; Sofapaka President Eli Kalekwa hasn’t splashed any money this time on anyone? Remember when Bob Mugalia was his personal property and would cost any prospective ‘buyer’ Ksh.7M? Remember when he would claim to have spent Ksh.12M on transfers?

I think now players can see that when the big clubs, Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, have no resources to invest in the transfer window then there’s very little business that goes on there. The big boys control the market. You see, some of these small clubs like Sofapaka and Tusker spend merely to try wading in the waters of the big boys’ club. Or does Gor Mahia’s twelve point gap discourage other clubs from spending? Probably. You only spend big mid-season if you have any hope in the vicinity.

Yes, Nyamweya out, but who’s ready to bell the cat?

Sam Nyamweya

Of all the things I want to do when I grow up, I’d not want to be a Sam Nyamweya. People, it’s only Nyamweya who can be Nyamweya. Even in a film (I recently auditioned for one by the way) I’d never want to play Uncle Sam.

So it seems there’s a national accord that it is time Uncle Sam left the office he’s held for four years. We seem to have decided that he needs to go. At whatever cost, the people are saying Nyamweya must go!

And here comes my question. With whom do we want to replace Uncle Sam? Are there credible candidates out there ready to take over the running of the game? You see, ready to lead is not necessarily about who shouts “Nyamweya Must Go” the loudest. No, it is much more than that. You don’t need to enumerate to us all the failures of past regimes and show us how dilapidated the game is. We know that already. Essentially we know where we are thus the clarion call Nyamweya Must Go! So tell us where we need to go (and do not take too long here) and most importantly how to get there.

We need someone with the audacity to bell the cat; someone with the balls to face the government and demand for the construction of the five promised stadia. I’ll write more about this later.

Eric Masika; hahaa what do we even say about him?

This is Eric Masika’s record at Sofapaka. Yes, he signed for Sofapaka and barely two weeks later, he left. Was he released? I don’t know. No more questions:

Lost 0
Won 0
Draw 0
Verdict: Clean man.

Yes, he’s gone. Where? Who knows! I like how Supersport.Com reported that Sofapaka Secretary General Emmanuel Kayoyi did not divulge much information on the eight days life history of General Masika at Batoto ba Mungu. But maybe the reporter was also too ambitious. I mean, what further information did he want from Kayoyi? Is there anything worth reporting footballwise to report about Eric Masika? Ok, what do you know about Masika even in the last one year alone? Nothing. Absolutely nothing!

But fairly here’s the little I know. He moved to Ken Kenyatta’s Ushuru after failing to get playing time at Ingwe. Even at Ushuru, a brother could only get to the teamsheet as an unused reserve player. Hahahaa! I’m not laughing. Put it into perspective; if you cannot get to be used at a lowly placed Ushuru how do you expect to play in Sofapaka? Prezda Kalekwa is not that desperate, you know! He’s just coming from doing some real transaction with Fiston Abdoul so he’d not be that desperate to sign the Masikas of this world.

Eric Masika is a typical example of the role humility plays in a player’s career. Remember how he left Gor Mahia? Yes, he wanted – no even threatened – to buy out his contract and join his club of choice, sorry club of his parents’ choice, AFC Leopards. But that was when he was at his peak. Masika was in the national team. He was the best centre back around here. He was PPO. Not many will say it but here let me have a go; nobody leaves Gor Mahia with threats and succeeds in football. Nobody!
