Jacob Krop settled for silver in the men’s 5000m while Mary Moraa bagged bronze as curtains came down on the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA on Thursday morning.

As the 10-day event concluded Monday morning, Kenya bagged a total of 10 medals; two gold, five silver and three bronze to rank fourth globally behind USA, Ethiopia and Jamaica.

Krop clocked 13:09.98 to finish second behind Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway who won gold in 13:09.24 while Oscar Chelimo of Uganda closed the podium bagging bronze in 13:10.20

Krop who was making her second stab at the world title became the fourth Kenyan athlete to win a silver medal in 5000m at the World Championships. His heroics were however not enough to end Kenya’s thirst for a gold medal stretching to 17 years now.

World leader Nicholas Kimeli and Africa silver medallist Daniel Simiu placed seventh and 10th respectively while Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei who was eyeing a double at the championship ranked ninth.

Moments later, Mary Moraa claimed bronze in the women’s 800m after finishing third in a new personal best of 1:56.71 behind Olympic champion Athing MU of USA who clinched gold in 1:56.30 and Keely Hodgkinson of Great Britain who took silver in 1:56.38

It was Moraa’s first title at the senior category since scaling from 400m to the two-lap race as she became the only third Kenyan to medal at the worlds over the event.

Kenya bagged her two gold medals through Faith Kipyegon (1500m) and Emmanuel Korir (800m).

Hellen Obiri (10,000m), Stanley Waithaka (10,000m), Judith Korir (marathon), Beatrice Chebet (5000m) and Jacob Krop (5000m) settled for silver.

Margaret Chelimo (10,000m), Conseslus Kipruto (3000m steeplechase) and Mary Moraa (800m) claimed bronze medals.
