Ibubi Girls Secondary School head
coach Oscar Felix has blamed lack of endurance for their failed to reach the
Western Region Secondary Schools Sports Association finals.
Felix says lack of proper training
facilities at Ibubi dealt a blow to their dream to outshine competition's favourites
and play at the national stage.
"Ibubi Girls has a small pitch.
Yet in Mumias the pitch was big making it difficult for my team to endure the
pressure of the game," Felix said.
"We tried our best to return to
the western semi-final stage this year and despite the 2-2 stalemate during the
regulation time luck was not on our side and so Madira Soccer Assassins edged
us out on 3-2," he added.
In 2024 the Maroon Queens exited the
competitions at the semifinal stage as Bishop Njenga got too better of
them earning 1-0 victory hence Mr Oscar believes that this year his charges
improved by holding experienced Madira to a 2-2 draw only for post-match spot
kicks to decide the fate of the two teams later.
"Ibubi Girls are novices in the
regional school games compared to Madira whose players feature in the national
team. Most of our players are in form two hence we are working to build the
team to compete comfortably in the future," Oscar Felix stated.
At the moment, Madira Girls are
flying the Vihiga County flag in the ladies soccer having qualified as first
runners up for the nationals after falling 1-0 to Butere Girls.
Tigoi Girls also qualified as first
runners up in the basketball 3x3 category and will also present a player for
badminton while Goibei's Kamene Everlyn and Annita Kalekye will proceed to the
nationals to play Lawn Tennis.
