Teachers from the Kuria region of Migori County have raised concerns over what they describe as discrimination within the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), Migori branch, and have indicated they may reconsider their participation in union activities if the issues are not addressed.

The teachers state that they feel inadequately represented in the union’s leadership and decision-making structures, a situation they say has limited their ability to effectively pursue matters affecting their welfare, including the implementation of collective bargaining agreements.

According to the teachers, the Kuria region previously operated under a KUPPET Kuria branch, which they say provided more focused representation of their interests. They are now calling on KUPPET’s leadership to intervene and review the current structure to ensure equitable representation of all members.

The concerns arise following the recent KUPPET Migori branch elections, in which teachers from the Kuria region did not secure any leadership positions. The teachers argue that the outcome has raised questions about inclusivity and may affect their participation in union affairs.

They have indicated that failure to address these concerns could lead to reduced engagement in union activities.
