Equity Bank made light work of Kenya Army after registering a commanding 3-0 win against the soldiers on the second day of the third leg of the men’s Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) league staged at the Kasarani Indoor Arena on Friday.

The bankers looked sharp and well-oiled as they put their opponents to the sword with straight sets of 25-23, 25-12, 25-15, a feat that put their title credentials on full display.

The opening set proved to be the most competitive as Kenya Army matched Equity point for point. The soldiers surged to an early lead with strong blocks and quick attacks at the net, but Equity Bank gradually settled into rhythm.

Captain Wilson Cheruiyot led from the front with powerful spikes while the bankers tightened their defense to claw back into the contest. With the score tied late in the set, Equity showed composure to edge ahead and seal it 25-23.

Having survived the early scare, Equity Bank dominated the second set from the onset. Their quick transitions and solid service game disrupted Kenya Army’s formation, allowing the bankers to open a comfortable gap midway through the set.

A series of well-placed attacks and blocks saw them race to a commanding 25-12 win, leaving the soldiers struggling to keep up with the pace.

The third set followed a similar script as Equity Bank maintained control of proceedings. Kenya Army attempted to stage a comeback with improved rallies, but the bankers’ sharp attacking play and disciplined defense kept them firmly in charge. Equity comfortably wrapped up the set 25-15 to complete the straight-sets victory.

Equity Bank coach Patrick Owino was impressed by the team’s performance, noting that it was a tough contest despite the scoreline.

“This win is a great motivational booster. It was a tough game, but we came prepared and conquered,” he stated.

Team captain Wilson Cheruiyot echoed the sentiment, acknowledging the squad’s determination to bounce back from earlier setbacks.

“We’re looking to bounce back from previous losses. Today’s win gives us the momentum to push harder,” he added.

Kenya Army coach William Wahome was not discouraged by the result, saying the loss offered valuable lessons for his side.

“We’ll strategize and come up with a plan to improve our performance. We hope to redeem ourselves in future games,” he said, leaving fans hopeful for a stronger comeback.

In other matches played at the same venue, Chema Volleyball Club made easy work of Prisons Nairobi, cruising to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-21) victory, while KDF dominated NYS with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-21) win.

Eldowas also bounced back from their opening-day loss to Chema with a 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-20) triumph against KAPU, while Trailblazers outplayed Administration Police 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-16).

The impressive performances from these teams have set the pace for the upcoming fixtures, with fans anticipating more thrilling encounters as the league action continues.
