The initiative, which extends across all 20 wards, seeks to promote inclusive governance by involving residents in key fiscal and development decisions.
The four-day exercise, which began on Monday, is being carried out in stages across various wards, with the first forums held in Tiwi, Waa Ng'ombeni, Bongwe-Gombato, Ukunda, and Kinondo.
The forums bring together residents, county officials, and County Budget Committee members in a collaborative effort to align public spending with grassroots priorities.
Governor Fatuma Achani emphasized the county government's commitment to transparency and citizen engagement, stating that inclusive participation is still essential for long-term development.
“Public participation is not just a constitutional requirement; it is the foundation of people-centered development. Our citizens must have a voice in shaping the policies and projects that impact their daily lives,” Governor Achani stated.
Patrick Yasisi, Chairperson of the County Budget Committee, highlighted the significance of the initiative in reinforcing Kwale’s position as a national leader in budget transparency.
“These forums are instrumental in aligning development priorities with the aspirations of our communities. Public engagement has been key to Kwale’s recognition as the top county in budget transparency,” Yasisi said.
Residents have welcomed the initiative, with many praising the county government’s inclusive approach. George Thairo, a community leader from Tiwi Ward, lauded the process for ensuring local voices are reflected in county planning and execution.
“We appreciate that the County involves us not just in planning, but also in project implementation. Our participation shows that the County leadership genuinely values our input,” Thairo said.
The forums are scheduled to conclude on Thursday. Feedback gathered will be compiled and submitted to the Kwale County Assembly for consideration and approval.
Governor Achani reiterated her administration’s pledge to uphold transparency, accountability, and active citizen involvement in all development processes.
“Kwale County remains committed to ensuring that no voice goes unheard in shaping our shared future,” she affirmed.
Kwale County has consistently earned national recognition for excellence in public participation, a status the county leadership aims to maintain through continued engagement with its citizens.
