Police officers in Kwale County are investigating a murder case where a Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officer killed a Kenya Police Service (KPS) officer and injured another before turning the gun on himself.

According to a police report on Wednesday, two KPS officers, Stanley Karithi and Aftin Farah Ali, were riding a motorcycle from Nyango towards Kilibasi, when they encountered two KWS officers also aboard a motorcycle, identified as Rangers John Ndichu and Eric Mugambi attached to the Kilibasi KWS camp.

The KPS officers had stopped a motorcycle ferrying charcoal, ridden by Salim Mwandoro

A disagreement is said to have ensued after officer Karithi questioned ranger Ndichu regarding two goats allegedly collected on behalf of the KPS officers during the festive season but not delivered.

"Ranger John Ndichu became hostile and opened fire using his rifle. He shot PC Stanley Karithi four (4) times in the chest, killing him instantly. He then shot PC Aftin Farah Ali once in the right ribs, seriously injuring him. The injured officer was rushed to Voi Hospital," the report said.

"The ranger also shot Salim Mwandoro in the right ribs, seriously injuring him. He was rushed to Mariakani Hospital."

Ranger Ndichu then shot himself under the chin and died on the spot.

The scene was processed, and the bodies were removed Voi Sub-County Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem.

Both MK-7 rifles belonging to the rangers have also been seized.
