The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) has intensified preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games by convening a High Performance Pathway Programme aimed at strengthening the country’s technical capacity across national teams.

The strategic capacity development symposium, which is being held in Nairobi, is bringing together national teams’ head coaches for both men and women, alongside technical directors from various sports federations.

NOCK Executive Committee Member Sasha Mutai explained that the initiative is designed to establish clear performance pathways while equipping coaches and technical leaders with the modern knowledge required in elite sport.

“The objective of this event is to bring together all the national teams’ head coaches for men and women, technical directors, and establish clear pathways to the LA Olympics 2028. Sports now is very technical...there is a lot of learning, there is AI involved, there is technology,” said Mutai.

He added that the initiative, implemented under NOCK's High Performance Commission, reflects the evolving nature of global sport, where success increasingly depends on advanced technical understanding, technology, and data driven decision making.

Modern coaching, he noted, now goes beyond traditional methods, incorporating artificial intelligence, sports technology, and scientific analysis.

NOCK Youth Development Director Barnabas Korir emphasized the importance of a scientific and collaborative approach.

“We want to use scientific ways to achieve success,” Korir said, adding that results will be the ultimate measure of the programme’s impact.

He explained that closer collaboration between NOCK and individual federations allows tailored support based on each sport’s unique needs.

With LA 2028 on the horizon, NOCK believes strengthening coaching and technical leadership is vital for sustainable success.

Organisers say the training marks a shift toward long term planning and accountability, ensuring lessons learned are translated into practical improvements at federation and team levels.
