Late tycoon Jackson Kibor's son jailed for assaulting step-mother's sister

Albert Kibor stared at the Presiding Magistrate Peter Areri in disbelief as he read the sentence to him.

Albert, who was represented by lawyer Maina Maathai, was convicted and jailed after the court ruled that the prosecution had proven its case against him in an incident where he was accused of causing grievous harm to Faith Jemutai.

The late controversial tycoon-cum-prominent cereal farmer left behind four widows, among them Eunita, who is the youngest wife, and 29 children, who include Albert.

The charge sheet stated that, jointly with another person who was not in court, he assaulted Faith Jemutai, causing her actual bodily harm.

He was said to have committed the said offence on March 8, 2025, at the Kibor building located within the Eldoret town Central Business District in Turbo sub-county, Uasin Gishu County.

In his defence, Albert pleaded with the Magistrate to have mercy on him, saying he had never committed any offence and that the assault charge was the first one since he was born.

He further told the court that he has a wife and children who solely depend on him for their upkeep, adding that if sent behind bars, they are bound to suffer in his absence in their lives.

He also brought to the attention of the Senior Principal Magistrate about his mother’s sickness, saying that he was the only one who provided money for her medication in the hospital and upkeep.

Jemutai narrated to the court how she was attacked and assaulted by Albert, who was in the company of another man at Kibor building, where her elder sister had employed her as a caretaker of the multi-million shillings property.

She said that Albert stormed the building and confronted her while demanding to know what she was doing with the property of his late father.
