President Uhuru Kenyatta has feted ten Kenyans for rendering distinguished and outstanding services to the country in various capacities and responsibilities.

The ten were honored by the Head-of-State at Uhuru Gardens on Wednesday as Kenya marked the 59th Madaraka Day celebrations.

They include: Paul Ndiritu Ndung’u, Nzioka Waita, Brig. Muracia Joseph Maina and his counterpart Carolyne Mwenda Mutisya, Prof. David Sang Kiprop, Dr. Khisa Westone Wakasiaka, Polycarp Onyango Otieno, Washenga Hussein Athaman, Nyariki Alice Kwamboka and Mwangi Jane Irene Nduta.

St. John Ambulance Kenya board chair Ndung’u and former State House Chief of Staff Waita were each awarded the Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart (MGH) during the event.

Ndiritu has been a volunteer with St. John Ambulance for the past four decades and in 2003 chaired the Ndung’u Land Commission whose recommendations have been critical in shaping land rows in Kenya.

The two brigadiers, Maina and Mutisya, were also handed the Order of the Burning Spear award. Maina was feted for his leadership as he successfully oversaw the refurbishment of Uhuru gardens and also supervised the construction and commissioning of the Uhuru sports complex in Lang’ata within 16 months. Mwenda has likewise oversaw the implementation of ten government projects across various Ministries and projects.

Kiprop, Wakasiaka and Otieno were gifted the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) award.

Kiprop has been the project manager of the guinea worm eradication program in Kenya and he has also been instrumental in the elimination of the epidemic of highland malaria in Kenya.
