The deceased, identified as Nicholas Otieno, popularly known as Abanko, is believed to have died by suicide following a domestic dispute involving dowry cattle paid for his elder sister.
According to Kadenge Assistant Chief Jacob Ouma, the family reported the incident shortly after 3:00 a.m. Preliminary accounts suggest that Otieno had demanded full control of the dowry animals, while his mother allegedly offered to give him only one calf. The disagreement reportedly escalated into a quarrel.
Otieno is said to have left home at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Saturday. His body was discovered several hours later by youths returning from a funeral vigil, who immediately raised the alarm and informed the family.
Chief Ouma confirmed that the dowry had been settled during a ceremony held the previous day, and that Otieno had insisted on receiving at least two cows.
