Man faces jail time for having sex at Uhuru Park

A man was on Monday arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts for allegedly having sex at Uhuru Park grounds in Nairobi.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Joseline Onga’yo, the accused; Kanara Maina, pleaded guilty to the charges.

He was sentenced to one month in jail or pay a fine of Ksh.1,500.

The accused pleaded for forgiveness but Justice Onga’yo said that the act was against the county by-laws.

The man and his partner identified as Wanjiku were allegedly caught getting intimate at Uhuru Park last week.  They were arrested and later released on a Ksh.500 police bond and told to come back to court on Monday.

The girl is, however, reported to have gone missing.

Having sex in public is against the law and is referred to as “public indecency” and “lewdness.”
