Sofapaka FC head coach Edward Manoah has expressed his desire to be integral in rebuilding the team after it was relegated earlier this month following a 2-2 draw with Mathare United.
This was the first time the 2008/09 champions nicknamed Batoto ba Mungu were relegated after 17 years in the topflight.
The veteran coach reiterated that it was not the time to leave the team in its current state, signaling his wish for his contract to be renewed.
Manoah’s three-month contract at Sofapaka expires next month. He was hired in March after his predecessor Ezekiel Akwana was relieved of his duties.
In the eight matches he has been in the dugout, Manoah managed four draws and a similar number of defeats.
It remains to be seen whether president Elly Kalekwa will trust him to steer the club back to the topflight next season after he failed the rescue mission.
Both parties will sit down at the end of the season to agree whether to continue together or to go separate ways.
Despite the relegation, the former Mara Sugar head coach feels it could be a blessing in disguise, allowing the team to realign and come back stronger.
“Every journey has setbacks. Even if it was a heart-breaking moment, it gives the team an opportunity to reflect and come back stronger.”
“Sofapaka is a big institution that has immensely contributed to the growth of Kenyan football. It is a team that has nurtured many talents and it will only be fair to keep the spirit alive,” Manoah added.
The 56-year old is now aiming to end the season on a high. Sofapaka will play KCB in their next match on Wednesday.
