Mathare United Women will be eyeing a double over National Women Super League rivals Bandari Queens when the two sides clash at Dandora Stadium on Saturday.

Head coach Ann Aluoch says they will treat the highly anticipated match as a final as they seek to extend their lead at the top of the Zone A table.

“This is an important match for us because we want to widen the gap between us and our rivals. They topped us last season and this season we are on a mission to top them and earn top-tier promotion. We are going to treat the match as a final,” Aluoch told Citizen Digital.

The slum girls won 2-0 in the reverse fixture and will seek revenge against the coastal side that completed a double over them last season.

During the 2024/25 season, Bandari Queens beat Mathare by a solitary goal both home and away, denying them a spot in the promotion play-offs.

However, this season, the Ann Aluoch-led side is on a mission. They have only conceded a single defeat and a single draw while winning 10 matches.

The Junior Starlets assistant coach said they have put in adequate preparations and are in good shape for the encounter.

“A match of such magnitude needs proper preparations. We had no choice but to prepare well because we need to be at the top level. I’m confident with the preparations we’ve had; we will cruise.”

Aluoch also called on her side to be ruthless in front of goal if they are to make a statement.

“We have been creating a lot of chances but we haven’t been scoring freely. We need those scoring boots on Saturday if we want to win because an opponent may get a single chance and utilize it,” said Aluoch.

Mathare currently tops the league with 31 points from 12 matches, six ahead of Bandari with 10 matches to play.
