Mathare United Women continued their impressive charge in the Women’s National Super League (NSL) with a commanding 3–0 victory over Gitothua over the weekend, further strengthening their push for promotion back to the top division.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Club CEO Jeckton Obong’o praised the impact of the team’s new signings, noting that their energy and quality have been central to Mathare’s outstanding early-season form. He reaffirmed that the club’s target this season is unmistakable—to reclaim their place in the top tier after several years away.

“So far so good, the girls are doing well and the new signings are blending in excellently. Looking at the score sheet, it is them. The coach’s tactics are also paying off. We have played seven matches, seven clean sheets, and collected 21 points. The mission is to play in the Premier League next season,” Obong’o said.

Among the standout performers was forward Gladwell Musungu, who marked her first appearance of the season with a goal. Musungu expressed gratitude to the technical bench for trusting her and giving her the platform to make an immediate impact.

“I’m thankful to the coach for the trust in me. The secret behind it is listening to the instructions. I can tell the fans that this is our season—we’re getting promoted,” she said.

Team captain Jerrin Adhiambo echoed the positive sentiments, lauding the squad’s unity and relentless work ethic. She noted that the depth within the team ensures that every player is ready to deliver when called upon.

“The beauty of this team is that everyone gets a chance to play, and when that time comes, they perform so well—just like Gladwell,” she asserted.

Mathare United Women now sit firmly at the top of the NSL table with 21 points from seven matches, boasting a flawless record and an extraordinary defensive run—seven wins and zero goals conceded. Their consistency has made them early favourites for promotion as the season gathers pace.
