National Cereals and Produce Board head coach Bryan Mathews believes they have what it takes to win the women’s league handball title this season.

This follows a brilliant start to the season, where they have remained unbeaten in all five matches, with recent victories coming against National Youth Service (NYS) and Kisiwa Polytechnic.

The Cereals dominated NYS on Saturday in a 42-23 win before mauling minnows Kisiwa 57-28 on Sunday to wrap up their weekend in style.

Mathews believes the squad he has assembled this season will finally give them an edge over bitter rivals Ulinzi Sharks and Nairobi Water.

“We have a lot of new players from the youth team who have been integrated into the team and have gelled well with the veterans. The new blood has given us new energy, and I'm happy we are getting the results we wanted,” Mathews told Citizen Digital.

Mathews, who doubles up as the men’s team head coach, added, “I’m certain that the squad we’ve assembled will give us our maiden title.”

The former Kenyan international says they have worked on their mistakes, and they will treat each game as a final in their quest for their first title.

“We’ve been working on our mistakes and implementing our philosophy, and I believe everyone is now on board. We are going to approach each game with the seriousness it deserves because we don’t want to drop any point that may dent our title hopes.”

NCPB tops the log on 10 points after five matches, level with arch rivals Ulinzi Sharks, although the Cereals have a better goal difference.

Record champions Nairobi Water sit third on six points after three matches.
