Former AFC Leopards Team Manager Joseph Milimu has
challenged the 12-time league champions to start believing they can lift the
KPL title this season.
Milimu termed Ingwe’s convincing 1-0 Mashemeji derby win
against Gor Mahia on Sunday as a 'statement of intent' that the Fred
Ambani-coached team should lean on, to start dreaming.
“Like the Mashemeji
derby match between hosts Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards gave us a clear picture of
what Ingwe are up to.
They outplayed their arch rivals completely in all
departments. These boys have the ability and are in a good position to put to a
stop the more than two decades league title drought. Only if they start believing
in themselves that they can,” he explained. “That win, and that display, in
front of that large crowd was a clear statement of intent that it is possible
to do what many could think is impossible.”
Milimu also stated that this season’s league has no outright
team that can be singled out to be stronger enough for a top finish which gives
defending champions Police FC an upper hand to defend the title.
“Kenyan league is very weak and this means that this year
there has not been that stiff competition as people may perceive because of the
thin gap at the top.
Teams are weak and so any team that will be consistent and
focused enough will be able to finish top of the league at the end of the
season.
This means that after defending champions Kenya Police were
knocked out of the CAF Champions League, they have now fully focus on the
league title and it appears to be a tough task for any other team like Gor
Mahia, Shabana and the rest to stop them from doing what they did last season,”
said Milimu.
Police are atop the tree with 19 points, two behind the
second-placed trio of Gor Mahia, Kakamega Homeboyz and Posta Rangers.
Shabana and Tusker FC come fifth and sixth in that order but
on 18 points each while Leopards find themselves on seventh with 17 points.
