A student at Mount Kenya University (MKU) died on Monday after jumping from the seventh floor of a building at the institution’s main campus in Thika in a suspected suicide case.

Confirming the incident, Thika Deputy OCPD Daniel Kitavi said the student died while receiving treatment at the Thika Level V Hospital where he had been rushed.

According to the police boss, the young man sustained serious head and leg injuries after jumping from the institution’s Chancellor’s Tower.

It was not immediately clear what led the student to commit suicide.

His fellow students, however, claimed he had been threatening to commit suicide over what he said were personal issues.

The body of the deceased was moved to the General Kago Funeral home as investigations into the incident continue.
