A family in Mombasa is demanding justice after their kin reportedly drowned in a swimming pool under unclear circumstances.

Lameck Arani is said to have drowned on November 30, at around 4 pm, one hour after leaving his work station at Bandari Maritime Academy where he served as a cleaner contracted by the Everdiva Company to provide services at the institution.

A postmortem examination report at the Coast General Mortuary raised serious questions among his family members after it indicated that Arani fractured four ribs on the right-hand side of his torso during his alleged drowning.

The deceased's similarly claim that the 23-year-old was an above average swimmer who was comfortable in the water hence they are questioning how he could drowned and fractured his ribs at the same time.

Citizen TV sought answers from Everline Irungu, the director of Everdiva Company, who noted that Lameck left work at 3 pm. She expressed astonishment at how Arani ended up dead.

“Mimi pia nilisikia story kama wewe vile umesikia kama aliruka kwa swimming pool lakini kile najua its past working hours najua polisi wanafanya kazi yao. Then who picked the body I can’t know ama muende kule bandari academy mtaelezewa,” Irungu said.

Bandari Maritime Academy Corporate Director Evans Oyieyo however told Citizen Digital that Arani was taken to hospital by Everdiva Company which organised for transport to ferry his body for treatment.

The institution was reportedly only made aware of the incident after the deceased's body was delivered to the Coast General Hospital.

Mvita Sub-County Police Commander Maxwell Agoro added that investigations into the incident are ongoing. He has since ordered a further examination of the post-mortem report.
