Mombasa MCAs impeach Tawfiq Balala

Mombasa County Assembly Members (MCAs) on Tuesday impeached the County Transport Executive Tawfiq Balala, accusing him of incompetence and gross violation of the constitution.

The decision came as a blow to Governor Hassan Joho, who had rooted against the motion.

The MCAs accused Balala of failing to execute designated projects, such as the provision of sufficient street lighting, as well as of mismanagement of funds within his department.

Two weeks ago, Governor Hassan Joho had come out to the public accusing the MCAas of blackmail and vowing to protect his executive members.

He even threatened to call for the dissolution of the Mombasa County Government, should the MCAs continue pushing for the removal.

The Mombasa MCAs however unanimously turned their threat to impeach transport CeC Balala into action.
