Motorists in Mombasa are facing significant delays following a major traffic snarl-up affecting key roads across the coastal city.
In a statement
issued on Saturday evening, the National Police Service (NPS) said the
congestion has been reported along Saba Saba, Buxton, and the busy Nyali Bridge
corridor.
According to the
police, the gridlock has been caused by ongoing construction works involving
the erection of pillars between Nyali Bridge and Kengeleni.
The project is
expected to continue for several weeks, raising concerns about prolonged
disruption to traffic flow in the area.
To manage the
situation, the NPS has deployed additional officers to oversee traffic movement
and enforce road regulations.
Authorities warned
that firm action will be taken against motorists who violate traffic rules
during this period.
“We urge motorists
to exercise patience and maintain lane discipline, to consider alternative
routes to ease congestion, and to enhance safety,” read the statement.
“There is a
diversion along the Kisauni–Malindi–Mombasa Road, and motorists are currently
being diverted towards Mishomoroni, exiting at the Kisauni junction.”
