More than 60 families have been affected by floods in Bala area, Koyugi Location, Karachuonyo Constituency, Homa Bay County.
This is after River Oluch burst its banks following heavy rainfall on Thursday night.
Out of the affected families, 10 were displaced after their homes were submerged by the floodwaters.
The area chief, Irene Ojwang, says the families have been evacuated to safer ground.
She added that several household items, chicken and crops were swept away by the raging floods.
The Riwa Special Economic Zone, which is still under construction through a partnership between the national and county governments, has also been flooded.
She urged residents to move to safer locations, including local churches and Bala Comprehensive School, to prevent injuries or loss of life as heavy rains continue to affect parts of the country.
