Moses Omondi secures Ugunja MP seat in overwhelming ODM victory

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has successfully retained the Ugunja Parliamentary seat following a by-election held on Thursday.
ODM’s candidate,
Moses Okoth Omondi, secured a decisive victory with 9,447 votes, far ahead of
his closest challenger, Eng. Odhiambo Orodi of the Wiper Patriotic Front, who
garnered 1,819 votes.
Other contenders
trailed as follows: Fredrick Ochiel (United Democratic Movement) – 1,200 votes;
Benson Otieno Obol (United Green Movement) – 1,171 votes; Maurice Juma Okumu
(Liberal Party of Kenya) – 381 votes; Vincent Olengo (Kenya Moja) – 333 votes;
Chrispine Omondi Oduor (KANU) – 188 votes; Lilian Akinyi (National Alliance
Party) – 182 votes; Erick Ofiro (Jubilee Party) – 91 votes; and Oliver Ochieng’
(National Liberal Party) – 56 votes
Announcing the
results at the constituency tallying center in Ambira High School, IEBC
Returning Officer Denis Omare reported that only 15,017 of the 60,114
registered voters participated in the exercise, translating to a 24.9 percent
voter turnout.
In his acceptance
speech, Mr. Omondi thanked the people of Ugunja for electing him as their
second Member of Parliament.
He pledged to
continue with the development agenda initiated by his predecessor, James Opiyo
Wandayi, who now serves as the Cabinet Secretary for Energy.
Mr. Omondi also
extended an olive branch to his competitors, urging unity and cooperation in
driving development across the constituency.
