Speaking during an interview on Citizen Television on Monday, the legislator noted that the opposition does not hold as many rallies as the Kenya Kwanza Brigade.
“Actually, even in your own reporting, just check a weekend and look at the kind of reporting or even just find out from the regions, there are a lot more meetings being held by Kenya Kwanza Brigade all over the country," he said.
"And all the functions that are being held by Kenya Kwanza operatives are peaceful. In fact, the only thing that happens is that they attack us a lot verbally. But they are basically peaceful. No stone is thrown, nobody is injured, nobody is beaten. But the few rallies of the opposition are attacked constantly," added.
In his response to the Linda Mwanchi rally in Homa Bay on Sunday, Mbui said that it was only the government that has access to tear gas, claiming that it was them who funded that kind of attack on the opposition.
According to the Lawmaker, Kenya has been a peaceful country, making it a preferred location for international institutions, most of which have set up bases in the country. However, he noted that the country is already having major challenges in the education and health care systems.
Additionally, he opined that with all those economic challenges, hired goons have been set up to beat them up for political persuasion.
Mbui maintained that everyone is allowed to compete and go to every corner of Kenya.
Mbui believes that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Inspector General of Police, and political leaders allied to the government will do little to address this issue, saying they will give “lip” service.
Ugly scenes rocked the Linda Mwananchi rallies in Homa Bay County on Sunday as one vehicle was torched, several people, including journalists, were injured and 17 suspects were arrested.
The attacks targeting Linda Mwananchi supporters allegedly started on Saturday night when goons attacked Homa Bay tourist hotel, where they shattered windows, destroyed property and stole items before leaving on motorcycles.
They were armed with stones and sticks as they traversed Nyandiwa, Suba South, where the Linda Mwananchi team were to attend a church service.
