Police are investigating an incident where a murder suspect is reported to have died by suicide while in custody at Longisa Police Station in Bomet County.

The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Antony Njenga Kariuki, allegedly hanged himself using his socks on the door of a toilet cell, bringing the station’s daily operations to a temporary halt.

According to Bomet East Sub-County Police Commander Michal Singa, Kariuki had been arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Caroline Ngetich, a teacher at Cheptagum Secondary School in Chepalungu Sub-County.

The alleged murder took place a week ago in a business shop where the couple had been living. Ngetich was reportedly strangled, and her body was later found outside the shop’s compound.

The scene of the murder was processed, and the victim’s body moved to Longisa Hospital mortuary. Police are continuing investigations into both the original homicide and the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death.
