Muyoti upbeat after Nairobi United dominate Shabana

Nairobi United head coach Nicholas Muyoti has lauded his players for their discipline, confidence, and resilience following a convincing 3–1 away victory over Shabana FC in an FKF Premier League match played on Sunday at the Gusii Stadium.

Speaking after the match, Muyoti said the win marked a positive start to the year and credited his squad for their commitment and mentality in a venue he described as difficult to play in.

“We have started the year well, and I must thank the players for how they have applied themselves,” Muyoti said. “Playing at this stadium is not easy, but my players showed bravery, confidence, and resilience.”

Nairobi United took control of the match early, going into halftime with a 2–0 lead. Duncan Omalla opened the scoring in the 21st minute before a Michael Karamor effort deflected into the net for an own goal just before the break. Omalla completed his brace in the second half to put the game beyond reach.

Muyoti emphasized the importance of midfield dominance and defensive organisation, noting that his side executed the game plan effectively.

“Today it was important for us to dominate the midfield, and we managed to do that,” he explained. “We also limited Shabana’s threat, especially their crosses from wide areas. They tried in the second half, but my defence worked very well.”

The coach also highlighted Nairobi United’s growing solidity at the back, pointing to an improved defensive record in recent matches.

“In our last five matches, we have conceded five goals, and in the second and third matches we conceded only two,” he said. “Today we scored three goals and conceded just one, and even that was from a penalty, not open play. That shows improvement.”

Shabana’s only goal came in stoppage time, when Brian Michira converted from the spot after a foul in the box.

The victory lifted Nairobi United to ninth place in the league standings ahead of their upcoming clash against second-placed AFC Leopards at Nyayo National Stadium.

Shabana, meanwhile, will face a stern test next when they host record league champions Gor Mahia at Gusii Stadium on Sunday, January 11, as they continue to search for consistency at home.
