Wiper leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, has disclosed that he had proposed Bomet Governor, Isaac Ruto, to be the National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential flag bearer.

Speaking exclusively to Radio Citizen on Wednesday, May 4, Kalonzo said after several closed door meetings to discuss the matter, his counterparts Musalia Mudavadi of ANC, Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula and Governor Isaac Ruto of Chama Cha Mashinani decided to throw their weight behind Raila Odinga of the Orange Democratic Party (ODM).

This, he said, was aimed at ensuring they have enough numbers to win the next General Election.

“Personally I am contented with the number two in command position. It is a very powerful position,” said Kalonzo.

“Let me disclose that initially I had proposed and was pushing for Governor Isaac Ruto to be our presidential flag bearer as a compromised candidate as I deputize him but my colleagues were not ready for that. I was also ready to deputize any other principal.”

Kalonzo said his name must be on the ballot as NASA’s presidential flag bearer in the 2022 elections.

This is after Odinga promised to serve for only one term if the opposition clinches the presidency.

He called upon Mudavadi, Wetangula and Ruto to fully support him in his quest come 2022.

“Everyone knew that Kalonzo-Mudavadi pair was to send Jubilee home. My brother (Raila) pleaded with us to support him promising to serve for only one term and we said yes so long he keeps the promise,” added the Wiper leader.

He defended the proposed positions offered to Mudavadi, Wetangula and Ruto under the NASA structure saying that they will push for referendum three years after taking over government to give the three leaders more power as Prime Minister and two deputies.

The former Vice President also dismissed claims that Jubilee was trying to woo him saying they had nothing to offer.

He called on his supporters to accept the position offered saying there is a lot to celebrate after this year’s General Election.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto have criticized the NASA line-up saying they will beat them hands down come August 8, 2017.

Kalonzo, however, says they have the numbers to send Jubilee packing.
